SUPPLEMENTARY VOTES

AVELLINGTON, December 7

In the Supplementary Estimates, the votes in the Ordinary Revenue Account total £133,510, and the votes under the Public AVorks Eund, amount to £59,247. The following items of interest are taken from the estimates :

A votes of £SOO lias been made for additional expenses of New Zealand ■delegates to the I Disarmament Conference.

The recent misappropriations from the High Commissioner’s Office are covered by a vote of £2666.

A grant of £385 is made to the widow of the late Air G. C. C. Black, ALP.

The expenses of the visit to the Cook Islands of the Minister of Native Affairs (Sir A. Ngata) and his private se retary is set down at £lO2. An amount of £3OO is provided to meet tne cost of by-elections. Additional expenses of the Mortgagors’ Relief Commissions are shown at £SOOO. An additional sum of £650. is voted to the Police Department for expenses in connection with street riots and disorder.

Provision is made for the expenditure of £550 on the repair of earthquake damage at Wairoa.

The vote of the Department of Lands and Survey includes a vote of £SOO for compensation for land taken in connection with the Waitangi Reserve, and a further vote of £250 for the renovation of buildings, fences, etc.

There is a vote of £IO,OOO (additional) for the carriage of lime for bona fide farmers, and' £SOOO (additional) for subsidies to the manufacturers of superphosphate. Provision is made for £70,000 for the purchase of milling wheat in Australia, but it is estimated that this amount will be returned to the Crown. An additional sum of £llOO is included in the Mines Departmnt vote as a bounty to the Onakaka Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. The sum of £1358 is provided in the Post Office account for additional interest payable to the. New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Co., Ltd., on radio license fees not paid over.

The cost in connection with the establishment of thet State Advances Commission Agencies is shown as £I7BO. Items of interest front the unauthorised expenditure account include the following:— Expenses of the Comptroller of Customs on the delegation to Honolulu in connection with the New Zealand and Canadan Trade Treaty totalling £240 11s 9d. Expenses of the Minister of Customs and party to Honolulu, £617 15s 6d. For potatoes supplied to indigent natives there is a vote of £635 3s 5d
