The death occurred at the Buller District Hospital of Mrs O’Loughlin, wife of Mr F. J. O’Loughlin, of Tiroroa. Deceased was a native of Christchurch (nee Miss Elizabeth Bromley), aged 53 years. She is survived by her husband, three sisters and two brothers.

It is freely stated in Westport that Mr Oscar Berg has discovered an extensive quart’s reef in th*e Mackley area. A party headed by Mr John Mann, of Mangatuna fame, and who has had great experience in. quartz mining, has left to report on the find. Mr Berg describes the country, which lies between Millerton and the Lyell, as very rough and is arranging for pack horses to convey provisions to the locality.

The death occurred lagb evening at her late residence, Taylorville, of Mrs Elizabeth Ann Dixon, at the age' of 48 years. Deceased who was a native of Brunner had been ailing for six months. • Besides her husband, Mr Geo Dixon, she leaves three sons,. George, Robert and Clifford, and one daughter Isabella. Power to work the Gillespie’s Beach Company’s’ dredgo ia being obtained from Lake Little. A tunnel is being driven through Clear Water Ridge to the Lake a distance of 25 cha ns, of which 200 feet has been completed, work being carried on continuously by three shifts per day. The power house which will be erected two miles from the Hostel at Weheka, will have available from the Lake, 700 feet of pressure, and will deliver 300 horse-power at the dredge thirteen miles distant.
