To commemorate his visit to lands in course of development by Maori settlers under various native development schemes organised in the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty districts, Lord Bledisloe has donated a silver cup to be known as the Ahuwhenua, or “Son of the Soil” trophy, with an endowment fund, for annual .prizes to be competed for by Maori farmers and settlers on native land development schemes. The fund is £IOO. The firsfc prize is a silver med'al and the second a bronze medal, with first, second and third certificates of merit, and a fourth in the discretion of the Minister.
