The Canadian dollar was down one and ' three-sixteenths . at the start, opening at 83-| in United States funds. The weakness is attributed partly to sympathy with sterling, also seasonal influences.

A LARGE GOLD SHIPMENT. LONDON, November 28. South Africa’s largest consignment of gold, amounting to two millions sterling, arrived at Southampton this week. It was transferred to the Bank ©f England.
