BURMA’S DECISION
REMAIN IN INDIA PEOPLE OPPOSE SEPARATION. (United Press Association- '-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) CALCUTTA, November 17. Burma has decided that she must remain an integral part of India, for, in the most amazing election since the deposition of King Tliibaw, the anti-isep-arationists have gained a. sweeping victory against those who wanted Burma to be free from the Indian Government. BURMESE ELECTION RESULTS.
DISCUSSED BY THE COMMONS.
RUGBY, November 16.
In the House of Commons a question was asked regarding the Burmese elections. . .
Sir S. Hoare said that, according to his latest information, t|he position was that the anti-separationist parties had so far now thirty-nine seats, the separationists twenty-nine and the neutrals nine, with three results to come. He said that there was good reason to believe that many of those who had voted for the anti-separationist candidates were still under the mistaken impression that it was open to Burma to enter the Indian Federation on terms that would enable her to leave wlien she -wished. He said that Mr R. MacDonald had indicated on January 12 last and he ’ nnself had stated in sufficiently plain terms on June 7 last that this was not a contingency that the British Government were prepared to contemplate. He said the alternatives before Burma were, on the one hand, separation from India in the immediate ; future, and the pursuit of a political destiny of its own; and on the other hand, entry into the Indian Federation, in which case she would remain a province of India, and would be treated in exactly the same way as any other province, and would have no mean's at her disposal of withdrawing from the Federation.
