CRICKET
The Canterbury Cricket Association has agreed to the request of the West Coast Association for a team to visit the Coast during the holiday period and voted £2 per man towards travelling expenses. The Association also .decided that W. E. Merritt' I® thanked for his letters, and in view of information given by hilu.tfie association does not propose to ,(.ako advantage of his offer. That motion was carried unanimously. This means that Merritt will bo available for the Canterbury cricket team tips season. • THE HOKITIKA CLUB. Maurice Tate, the Sussex bowler, joined the English cricketers at the nets. He will probably be selected for the game opening on Friday against an Australian Elevc 1. Tate says he has lost a stone i.i weight since he was last in Australia, but at present is feeling fit. TO-DAY’F, TEAM. MELBOURNE, November 18. To-day the English team play an Australian eleven. The English team will be:—Sutcliffe. Patau,di, Leyla.d, Paynter, Larwood, Wyatt, Allen, Voce, Bowes, .Duckworth and Brown, with Mitchell as twelfth man. Those omitted airo Jardine, Verity.
