AUCKLAND, November 15
Having pleaded g u 'lty a charge of stealing .£27 5s 6d, the. property of the, Waidhihe River Board,/ Thomas Wade-Watford, aged 44, former secretary to the Board, appeared for sentence before Mr McKean, S.M., in. the Policy Court. The offences were committed at Greytown, Wellington, province, where the Board has its office, between December 18, 1930, and August 4, 1931. When the case- was heard on Monday fit w r as stated that the accused left’ Greytown suddenly in August, 1931, and, after h'n departure, it was revealed by t.he Government audit of the Board’s, accounts that there were defa’cations amounting to £27. “There is very little- that can b° said in your favour, and there is not the slightest prospect of your making restitution,” said the Magistrate, in passing sentence. “I have conferred with |j).e officer about you, and i (i thiuk should serve a short tertji of imprisonment.” Accused was sent to prison for six weeks. •,, LODGE. ft/NDS STOLEN.
BLENHEIM, November 15,
iSelwyn Hooson, the ex-isecretary of the Loyal Marlborough Lodge and Marlborough District Lodge of the M.U.1.0.0.F. pleaded guilty to a series of thefts of Lodge funds extending ove- a period of about three years, and involving nearly one thousand
pounds. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed.
