The national conference of School OommiteeS 1* -sociafidn has opened. The de'egates prevent are:—Roberts aud Morn's (Auckland;), Bridge and Parker (South Taranaki), Phillips and Camt *rou (Mann w atu). Hchnes >av (Hawke’s Bay) by proxy, McDonald and Ingram (Wellington), Evisdn and Buchanan' (Canterbury). Preen (South Canterbury) j Somerville and Hunt (Otago), Steele .('Southland 1 ). Mr Steele was elected Chairman.
After a spirited discussion, a: motim \yith resosef to * "'the fbrmiftW of a 'national federation ,wa« withdrawn in favour of one appointing a subcommittee to report on the matter to the conference. A motion was carried • that the Conference expresses itself as being definitely opposed to the portfolio cf Education being held by a member c f the Upper House. The. unification of control of the education svsteni w'rs supported. A South Taranaki remit opposing the proposal to abolish Education Boards, ’Was. carried, coupled with on, e expressing strong disapproval of centralisation of contrd in Welling+pn, as recommended by the National Economy Commission.
