WELLINGTON, November 15

At a crowded representative meeting of Wellington, citizens and business men held thus l afternoon, t*.e following resolutions, were unanimously and enthusiastically parsed:— This meeting desires to record itig deep 'appreciation of Mr Mclntosh’s, services to the Dominion in the',past 1 Ind fulHappreciacion of the part he ias thken as a member of the National Cxpeii&iture Commission and 1 deplores he attaclcs'hiiade oh a devoted, loyal, intrepid, intelligent, citizen..

Secondly, in the opinion of this meeting, the members of the Royal Commission are entitled within the scope of their official duties to exactly the same protection as judges and magistrates. - It deeply deplored the violation of this fundamental; by the proceedings taken, by the House of E Toresentatives against Mr Mclntosh, and heartily congratulates him on Ins resolute refusal to answer tile questions put to him- by the Select Committee, regarding the reasons of his 'addendum to the report of the National Expenditure Commission, and the confidential evidence on which it was andi the meeting respectfully ,points out to the Government and House of Representatives that unless the immunity hitherto: enjoyed by a Royajl Commission front interference cf this ikind, is restored, the difficulty of securing the serv'.ces of men who will handle contentious issues with the courage and thoroughness displayed by ‘Mr Mclntosh and his colleagues, will be greatly increased.
