SCHOOL COMMITTEE

HOKITIKA MONTHLY MEETING. The Hokitika District High School Committee met last evening, : when j there were present, Messrs A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), J. 'Conning, W. E. Richards, W. Shannon, A. McDougall, H. W. R. Sweney, and J. J. Breeze.. Apologies were received;from Messrs R. Pedder, F. Chesterman s and the Rector (Mr J. L. Menzies) 1 . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and the outward was read and approved. ; yi Inward correspondence as follows was dealt with:— , ; From the Health Department, enclosing the annual report of the Division of Dental Hygiene.—Received. From the’ ’ Canterbury Education Board, asking for particulars of fencing required "for school reserve.—Received and secretary to supply the information. , From Mr T. Nuttall, the Committee’s representative on the Canterbury School Committees' Association, outling ,a report of the last meeting of the Association .—Received. From the Wellington School Committees’ and Education Federation, enclosing an appeal for the formation of a National Federation of School Committees of New Zealand.—Re* ceived, and no action to be taken. The Rector reported that the Average attendance at the /second sohool- was ■18.5 hoys, 40.1 girls/total 8316 ; and ' tlie primary school was 104i8 boys And--138.3 girls, total 302.5. The toll number of the second school wAA 93, and the primary 335'. Mr J. J. Breeze reported on behalf of the visitors for the'month, and instanced several requirements to he attended to by the Education Board. He also suggested that the Town Clerk be asked to detail two men, on the No. 5 unemployment scheme, to carry, out certain improvements to the lawns and school grounds.
