MONTHLY MEETING OF DISTRICT COMMITTEE. GREYSSd||IiH, October 8. A meeting of ;' tfisv District Racing Committee was held atii.Grey mouth yesterday. It was decided that a, letter of sympathy be .sent to Mr D. J: Evans a member of the Committee, in his illness, wishing him a speedy recovery w> good health. , The Westland Racing Club’s programme for its midsummer two-day meeting, .providing (£llOO 'in stakes, was approved.The application of T. 1. Smith, of Westport, for a trainer’s license, - was recommended to the New Zealand Conference to be granted.

J. Mes?ervy, of Harihari, made application for a jockey’s license. The application was referred *c the. Canterbury J.C. C'ommittee j ar.d if approved by "will be recommended to the 2v.Z. Conference to be granted. R.. (Jr. Doyle, of Hokitika, also applied for, a jockey’s license. The application was referred to the Whangarei RiC., to 'be recommended to the N.Z. The Karamea Racing Olub appSed"' /or Saturday, January 11, 1935, as the date for the .Club's next meeting. The programme, which included ,gix events {two trotting and four galloping) with* a .total stake iof £BO, and a silver valued at £ls 15s, was approved. The New Zealand Conference advised that R. B. Orange’s trainer’s and jockey’s license had been suspended for one month from August 6th.

The 'New Zealand Conference advised that the Committee had decided to reduce ,the number bf Stipendiary --Steward^—f rom—three’ —to—two—on—the-

score of economy ; also that where a permanent stipendiary steward could not attend ahy race meeting, the President had been authorised to appoint a deputy to attend. /Each District Committee was halted to suggest': the names of fluitalple men to act deputy stipendiary is to ward, racehorse owners and trainers not to bo included.
