RUGBY, October 6

Lord Clydesdale, who it to be the chief pilol of the Mt Everest expedition, was grated leave of absence by his Parliamentary constituents in East Renfrew last night to enable him to undertake his flight. The project, which has the support of the Air Ministry, and the India Office, is hazardous and reliance must be placed entirely upon the engines for about fifty miles of the flight Over Mt. Everest, which says Lord Clydesdale, alone stands out as the only significant part' of the world which has not been flown over'.' ; ;' :

Three of the fleet of eight new mono- , planes, the first monoplanes to he used by the Imperial Airways, have been delivered at London air port for ser*. vice on the Croydon Capetown route. They are known as the Atlanta class, and have been specially designed for flying in the tropics by the Armstrong- , White Wold Aircraft/ Company. Each has four double Armstrong-Siddelley mongoose engines, and is capable of flying 150 miles an hour. The monoplanes are luxuriously equipped. It. is expected that whole fleet will be in service by the end of the year. A weeklly air mail service has been established between Broken Hill (Northern Rhodesia) and Elizabethville (Belgian Congo) connecting with the English-South African air mail, which leaves Croydon every Wednesday.
