NEW MAYOR
FOR NEW YORK ‘ MR WALKER SUPERSEDED. . •» (United Press Association —By Electric Tel egraph—Copy right.) NEW YORK, October 6. I The litigation following the resignation of Mayor 'vValker, of New York, as cabled on September 9th., has resulted in the Court of Appeal giving a decision to-day, .that a new Mayor must be elected on November Bth., as the same time as the National elections. . ■ The New York City Democratic Convention to-night nominated as surrogate, Mr John P. O’Brien, which is the choice of Tammany Hall, over Mr Walker, or Acting-Major McKee. The nomination followed a bitter fight, involving r wnal politics, but at .the last mmute, Mr Walker, who is en route to New York, aboard the “Europe, ” cable*l, withdrawing his name, partially because he is in ill health, and partially because he desired to avoid embarrassment to the National Democratic Ticket, headed by Governor Roosevelt, whose friends at the Convention agreed to Mr O’Brien, but indicate that they would fight Mr Walker, whose, name, however, brought applame from the 3,200 delegates, thus causing leaders to predict that h® is likely to be a oandidate at the 1 1932 elections.
