TWO 'MEN GET GAOL. . (Per Press Association — Copyright.) PALMERSTON NORTH, October 7. „ Pleading guilty to six charges ■ of theft of sheep, Sydney Jarvis, 26, and Jack Wilde, 27, both relief workers, were sentenced by Magistrate Stout to six months’ hard labour on one!charge and one month on each of the others, ■ the terms to be concurrent. The total number of sheep involved was twelve, some being stud aniihqls. The police said the owners of some sheep of the stud befriended the accused w,ho had used the meat for food. The Magistrate dealt with the offences under the Justices of the Peace Act, -the maximum term of which is six months. He told the accused, who pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily, that they were liable under the Crimes Act to fourteen years. Though they w-ere relief workers there was no excu-e for such actions This should be a warning to those who 'think because they are on relief work they are entitled to take the goods of other people.” Mr Stout added.
