MANUFACTURERS’ PROPOSALS(Per Piess Association — Copyright.) ■WELLINGTON, October 6. OVERSEAS TRADE MATTERS. WELLINGTON, October 6. Following a discussion in committee, the Conference of New Zealand Manufacturers passed a resolution that the Federation is of the considered opinion that in lieu of reducing the finances of the Department of Industries and Commerce, as recommended by the National Expenditure Commission, the ‘ Government could expend the present vote in a ’stronger e ff°rt to develop the oversea market. When the question of the trade treaty between Australia and New Zealand was discussed by the conference, delegates said it was high time the Government was asked to do one of two things —enact machinery to deal with the depreciated currency within the Empire, or give notice of the abrogation of this treaty. Mr \ T . Abel said the matter should be discussed with a view to some adjustment being made owing to the effect of the depreciated currency. Mr S. Tackle (Auckland) said the duties hardly affected Australia, owing to the .high exchange. The Customs Department should be able to help, v .The Chairman, Mr Campbell, suggested waiting until Mr Craig (Controller of Customs) returned from Ottawa.
