MR FENTON
LEAVES FEDERAL CABINET. Australian Press. Association.) CANBERRA, October 5. Hon. Mr Fenton, the Postmastergeneral, to-day tendered his resignation as member of the Lyons Federal Ministry, which ’ has been accepted. Mr Fenton, in.-_a brief, statement'of his reason, said that he had a general disagreement with the Cabinet on its tariff policy, which led him to desire to be free to vote as he thought best' on each tariff item. The Prime Minister, Mr J. A. Lyons expressed his deep regret at the resignation of Mr Fenton, especially because their relations politically arid otherwise .had been hitherto most cordial. Mr Fenton,- he said, took a step which led to the formation of the present Government and which led later to the defeat of the Lang Government in New South Writes;?;' In fact, the whole series ofjAyents, added, Mr Lyons,. culmiriatirig in the present favourable position of the country were directly traceable to the courageous act of Mr Fenton in combining with a few colleagues in breaking away from Mr Scullin’s Government, .?
