RUGBY FOOTBALL
THE WESTLAND, SUB-UNION. The Westland Rugby Sub-Union met last evening when there were present Messrs J- C ! . 'Stafford (chairman), F. McGregor, A. Qrtbush, D. R. Dowell, J. McClieiary, A. Thompson., A. H. Lawn, W. H. Stop forth, R. McDonald and E. W. Heenan.
A letter of thanks was received from the Initngahua Sub-Union for the hospitality shown to the Reef ton team. The West Coast Union wrote notifying the anwital tournament at Kumara on Saturday.
The sum cf £1 Is was voted toward the fund being conducted for Mrs Palmer, the mother of R. R Palmer, the All Blade who wa.s fatally injured in a match at Auckland.
It was decided that the final cf the senior knock out competition between Kiwi .and Excelsior be played on Saturday. October Bth.
At the request, of the West Const Union it was decided to request the Kiwi Club to supply particulars of its team which played for the Wise Cup.
In view of the tournament' at Kumara on Saturday it was decided to suggest to the Ross Club that- the tournament at Ross be postponed until October • 8. The chairman handed the Rose Cup to the delegates of the Excelsior Club, winners of the senior competition, and congratulated the Club on its performance, the delegates suitably replying. It was stated that the railway department had decided to put on a special train for the West Const v, Wellington match at Greymouth tomorrow.
It was decided that an endeavour he made to arrange a match between the Greymouth third grade representatives, and a te)am ♦-selected from the''Bchcoll 1 , Kiwi and Excelsior junior teams on Saturday. The arrangements were‘ left to Mr.-J). L. Menzies. It was recommended that a grant of £5 be mad© to the junior team travelling to Westport.
PLAYERS INJURED
G. F. Hart will be unable to play for Canterbury in the inter-provincia 1 Rugby match next Saturday a gains' the West Coast, owing to a partial reopening of tbe split in his collarbone which prevented him from playing foi New Zealand in the test matches thb year.
L. <Denz, the Waikato half-baek. broke his <''llarl'on e when tackling Manchester in the match last Saturday. Be continued playing and It was not until aft -v the match that if was found that ho had broken liis collarbone- 4
