On Saturday when the road rdller belonging to the Inangahua pounty Council was proceeding from Reef ton to Cronadim, the steering chains become jammed and the machine ran off the road!, and subsided into a hole on the roadside, lying op its side. A pageant and sacred concert tvill take place in the Methodist Church to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, commencing at 8 o’clock. The young women of the Olunrch will be staging the pageant and items will be given by some of the leading local artists, Miss Lynn, ' Mr and! Mrs A. On Sunday and yesterday there was easily the best run of whitebait of the season, a good- quantity being netted. By last night’s train over 100 tins were sent forward for Christchurch easily the largest consignment of the year from Hokitika. 'ln addition we understand a lorry load went from south to Otira to catch the,/ goods train there. This morning there was another good run of whitebait, trie river banks being lined with fishers. A few tins went north by the morning train.
The death occurred at the Greymouth Hospital, early yesfrtrdiay morning, of Daniel J. Maguire, aged 41 years, following a short illness. Deceased, who- was a native of Ireland, Is survived by his wife, and two children, who reside in Wellington. He arrived in Wellington in 1919, and for several years was employed at the Wellington Hospital, as porter, later coming to 'Grevmouth, where for the past three yeans, he had been porter, at the Gney Hocoital. He served in the Imperial! Army, and wa,s a member of the Greymouth Returned Soldiers’ Association.
The Anchor Company's did Nelson ferry steamer Ngaio, which has been laid up at Nelson for the .past two years, is at pwsoin't under offer of sale beyond New Zealand.. The Ngiaio, formerly., the Union. Company’s Mapouriba, .-was built in 1898 by Denny’s, Dumbarton, for the Wellington-West Coast passenger service. In 1921 she was Purchased by her present owners for the Nelson ferry service, in which she ran until laid up, when the Anchor Company purchased the Matangi.

The mayor of Ross said he objected to Mr Greenslade giving birth to another control board. (Laughter) He snggested that as the Power Board could do with all 'the revenue they could wet, they should advertise their intention to issue licenses to ply for hire, so that they-would all have the same chance. He was quite sure that judging by the eager look on the faces of some of his hearers, that there would be quite a rush to be first! in the. field. The mayor of Westport caused quite a hearty laugh when he said that although we all looked upon water as a national asset, it. was very strange that West Coasters all looked for something that was imported to put into it. ,
