ON REDUCTION IN AMOUNT OF SUSTENANCE. (Per Press Association — Copyright.' September 9. A confirmation of th© Unemployment Board’s decision' to reduce to fifty per cent., as from next Monday, the amount of sustenatfife'”payable if a local b'ody is unable to find work for a man, was obtained to-day from Hon. Mr Hamilton, i, ’ .
It had been found, said Mr Hamilton, that some of the local bodies were taking advantage of the ninety per cent, proi ision to avoid their own responsibility of finding work, and the new decision could be taken as an indication of the Government's attitude towards the responsibility of the locail bodies to find relief work for unemployed men within their districts. line Government’s policy all along, had been “no work, no pay.” It is understood that, from the end of this month, the sustenance is to be paid only in respect of the work actually performed!
