BANDITS’ KIDNAP
RESCUE EFFORTS BEING MADE

The B/ritish Consul-General at Mukden is in touch with local authorities who are taking all possible steps to overtake the • bandits in order toj secure the release of the two British subjects kidnapped at Newchang. yesterday. The victims are Mrs Pawley a daughter of Dr Phillips, and Mr Chales Corkran, the son of MajorGeneral Sir Charles Corkran, of London.
They were out riding with Mr Duncan Macintosh,, and they were attend■ed .by two Chinese grooms, when the party were surrounded and captured by bandits. Macintosh, who like Corkran,'is an employee of the Asiatic Petroleum Company at Newchang, succeeded in escaping. He immediately gave the alarm and a pursuit was at once taken up.
