LANG V. STEVENS
CLASH IN HOUSE SERIOUS RECIPROCAL CHARGES (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, 'September 8.
' The first day’s business in the Legislative Assembly was marked by a r clash between Mr J. tS. Lang and Mr B. S. B. Stevens. ■* Following an attack by Mr Lang, the 'Premier alleged that the Leader ! 'of the Opposition liadl “plundered” his private correspondence, and had used the information in Parliament.
Mr Stevens said that, upon, assuming the premiership, he left confidential papers under lock and key in the room now occupied by Mr Lang, and his private cash book and correspondence had been examined 1 .
In his speech, 'Jiir 'Lang referred to Mr Stevens’ private business dealings, and charged him with paying £2OOO to the tin hare witness, RBarry, to commit perjury. , Mr Lang then moved a motion of xio confidence in the 'Government, hut this was defeated on a party division.
