ON BROADCAST ENTERTAINMENTS
RESTRICTIONS TO BE MADE,

'The Federal Ca'binet, yielding to representations made by the broadcasting authorities, have decided to place restrictions on the Australian Performing Rights’ Association, Which is reported to beylevying , heavy -charges upon the broadcasting and stage entertainments. ;
The Federal Government’s inquiries disclose that, during, the twelve months ended June 30, th e Performing Rights Association hag received thirty thousand pounds from the Australian A -Stations, and about fifteen ■ thousand pounds from the B Stations for the broadcasting of works of which this Association claims the copyright.
The entrepreneurs complain that they have no way of ascertaining whether the Association is entitled to the copyright fees in respect of any particular work except by costly litigation.
The Cabinet, -which has obtained n mass of information on the subject will make its statement this week.
