POTATO CROPS LATE

FROST IN PUKEKOHE DISTRICT

AUCKLAND, August 29,

Although some exaggerated reports were circulated about the damage done to the Pukekohe potato crop by severe frosts that were prevalent a few weeks back, the fact, remains that a serious setback was experienced.

Latest advices are to the effect that regular supplies for export to other parts of the Dominion will be two to three weeks late. They are not expected to be ready till the end of October, though a few odd lines may be available earlier. Had there been a heavier rainfall lately the tubers would have come away better. Only light rains have fallen, arid the country would appreciate sCgortd soaking.
