NEED FOR THE DOMINION'S

The importance of seeking ■ new markets for the Dominion’s . products;, was «tressed'; by the Minister of Lands, the Hon? id 1 A. Ransom, when opening the now' hail at Papatawa last night.
. Mr Ransom said the-slogan of: trade within the. Empire was not as.sound ae one thought, especially when one realised that Great, Britain exported most of it« manufactures to foreign countries. Germany, France, Belgium, and .Canada -imported no less than £150,000,000 , worth ,of primary ?. products Ithat th’is Dominion could . supply,- and as -yet. theDominion only , supplied them- with £1.250,000 worthy There were great' possibilities for developing foreign trade,' be said. It was not possible for Great Brit- ( ain, said Mr Ransom, to take the increased productions from the Dominion. Since l€Mithei'Vpopu'lntion'nhad)in-, creased 'by 2,000,000, yet New-Zealand Yfllpne .;jfiad' just-about-doubled its butter ' Old Country, and had' shown an increase - in the quantity of' the cheese sent to the'same markets. The Minister referred to the securingof an order of nine million feet of timber a year for motor-body budding. The Dominion had gone after business and had .secured it ; - and it vshowed what could be done by trying. In concluding, Mr Ransom urged the Meat Board and the Dairy Produce Board to do likewise.
