MINE BREACH
PROSECUTIONS AT DENNISTON.(Per Press Association — Copyright.) WESTPORT, August 14. . Charges of breaches of the Mining, Regulations were brought at Denniston by Mr J. Hughes, Inspector of Mi neb, on .Thursday. Albert Smith, Mine Manager of Denniston Iron Bridge, colliery, was charged that as manage.’ of that mine, in* which inflammable gas hasp been found within the past six months, h© had failed to provide adequate ventilation by means of mechanical ventlfitjng fan for eight hours preceding the .entry of men into the mine. A cohvictioni was recorded, and a fine was imposed of £2 with costs. 1 • • A second prosecution was an informaton against Joseph Smith, Fireman Deputy, of the Iron Bridge mine-, Denniston, to the effect that lie had failed to examine, with a locked safety lamp, ail of the contiguous accessible places within a radius of Twentyyards before firing a shot in the mine. The charge, after evidence had been hoard, was dismissed.
