HITLER S DEMAND

Herr Hitler interviewed General Von Schleicher and Chancellor Von Papon, , who informed him that Marshal Von {Hii|denburg, 'the president, insists on of a lion-party. Government, jin which tine Nazis’ Party, could participate, but in which they .could not have the Chancellorship. .
Herr Hitler declared that the general election had shown that Germany wanted him (Hitler) as Chancellor. He also demanded the portfolios of the Inferior and of Defence. Chancellor Von Papair offered him the Vice-Chancellorship, hut Herr Hitler refused this, and' he insisted on having the Chancellorship. The negotiations thus failed; Captain Von Papon is continuing the Chancellorship. Hen*. Hitler had, a lengthy conversation with President Von Hindenburg, who repeated his invitation to him to share in the Von Papen Government; but he rejected Herr Hitlers’ demand for the Chancellorship, and regretted Herr Hitler’s refusal to. fulfil his preelection statement that ho would support,, the National Government, - It is understood the President told Hitler: “I am in a position, and l am -ready to ourb any attempt to seize power by violent means.” \ -/
