There was great combination between Turbitt, -Bay and Anthony, while Joblin waS'iaj tower of strength in the halves, and Spiers, and Ewan provided a splendid defence. Auetrar Ha’s defence was weak on the left •side, and among the poor forward display, Cormies’ work stood-out. Bay made'history, winning a penalty bully in a Test match. Half-time found the New Zealand team leading by 3 goals to nil.
The New Zealand team was' unchanged in the second half, but- Australia replaced Tart at centre-half with ■\Vanless, ' without avail. The New Zealand forwards were irresistible, Turbitt playing the game of his career.Anthony suffered a minor hurt. Spiers staved off several strong attacks in the closing stages, .when Australia showed some patches of brighter work. Nice passing by Munro at centre-half was responsible for three goals. The scorers were: Turbitt four, Bay two, and. Reid one-.
The Governor-General, Sir Philip Game, was present, and was introduced to the teams.
