BONUS ARMY
POLICE FIRE AT VETERANS. TROOPS RUSH TO THE SCENE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rebelved this dav af, 11.15 a,m.) . WASHINGTON, July 28. . A group of ‘ bonus-seeking; United States veterans to-dav resorted to violence after . being evicted from a building they were occupying in lower Bennsylvanita Avenue. They hvere chased by the police for som/e distance, throwing bricks in reply. A later message states that the obooting broke out betWikm the police and the veterans enamped on Pennsylvania Avenue two blocks from the capital. 'One unidentified veteran was shot dead and another was seriously wounded. Troops were ordered out at the. direction of President Hoover. From Fort Myer squadrons of cavalry rushed from Virginia into the city and headed for White House. Meanwhile, down near the Capitol, the police strove to keep order among the veterans who -were in ugly mood after having been fifed upon by the officers.
