The metropolitan, tramways will not pay. this financial year. In consequence ilte Government is said to b» giving serious consideration to a. proposal that title services on a number of nor-paying lines should be discontinued and replaced by t- ivately-owned buses. The terms of charter would probably reel uire the buses to contribute a portion of their earnings towards interest charges on, the tramways capital that wool i be rendered unproductive, and possibly towards gradual'y extinguishing the capital debt.
