Mr Bfinnett linked arms ’with Messrs Bruce and Coates, and escorted them from the crowded station to their hotel. Messrs Bruce and Coates called upon Lord Bessborough. - The delegations are accommodated •in the- luxurious Chateau Laurier hotel. "’lts six hundred rooms are all occupied. , The 'Canadian Government is extending'lavish hospitality.

Messrs Baldwin and Thomas were interviewed by sixty Empire and American journalists. Mr Baldwin lighted, a great cherry wood pipe and the delegates indulged in friendly exchanges, calling each other Stanley and Jimmie. ■

Mr Baldwin said: “I hope we won’t make speeches! Wo ‘ have come here to work. and' try ■ to get’ something done. It is too early to sayj-,anything about- the 'Conference, except . that there has never been a Conference approaching this in importance, because w 7 e have never previously been in such a position to negotiate as to-day, with a free hand from the electorate.
