SYDNEY, July 12. " A deputation which interviewed the acting Minister of Customs, Mr Perkins, sought Federal' Government aid in increasing tlie activities at Cockatoo dockyard, Sydnley, thus provid ng more work. !
Tlie speakers suggested that an effort should be made to break down United States legislation, under which American liners arei not allowed to undergo repairs in Australia, in addition to receiving large subsides to the detriment of Australian and New Zealand shipping. The Minister replying, reminded.,the deputation that the loss on Cockatoo last year amounted to-fifty-two thousand but the closing of* the dockyard was. unthinkable. He promised to convey the representations £>o the Federal Cabinet.
