CHRTsfcHtmCH, ' Jtfy A severe criticism of the- Pubhc (Works Department’s action; in asking 'what was termed exorbitant rentals f9r towLs which are. now lying idle, and wer e deteriorating, wa.s made at a meeting of the Citizens’ Unemployment Relief -Committe-e to-day. It .'was stated that if local bodies could have the use of the tools at a reasonable rental, Bnv could provide work for’ -a considerable' number of men who cannot be- pro-jki-ed for week by- week. The committee derided to inform the Unemployment Board that the local Jodies ol Christchurch were prepared to employ addit’onal relief workers -absorbing 'practically all the- men who could not now get -work, provided arrangements could be made for. 'the Public Works Department to lend the necessary tools.
