The ..Queenstown sailer “Melbourne” was sunk off Faistnet in a collision wi:h a British tanker “Seminole.” The crew were taken‘.aboard the Seminole.
(Received this day at 9.25 a.m) . LONDON, July 1. The tanker, Seminole, which rammed the Melbourne is bringing fifteen of the Melbourne’s survivors to Queenstown. Eleven were drowned) including the Captain, first and third officers, boatswain, chief steward, and six sailors.
The Seminole was practically undamaged after the impact. The crew of .the Melbourne jumped overboard, but many weire asleep between the fore and ’ mainrnttjst, and probably be came entangled io the rigging, or wefe unable to reach the dec-kl
The Seminole launched a lifeboat towards swimming survivors. One was sent to the hospital -at Queenstown with an in juried leg,'while others, clad oiily in shirts and trousers at the time, are suffering from exposure.
