HOPEFUL NOTE

OTTAWA SUCCESS

\ ADDRESS BY PRINCE GEORGE.

(United Press Association—By Electric

J'e.egrapii—Copyright,.;

LONDON, July 1

Speaking on behalf of Die Prince of Wales at-the Canadian Dinner at the Savoy Hotel to the Ottawa delegates,

Prince Georgia markeuiy • yinpres/sifiuhis hearers by sounding a call to the Empire .to give the world a lead towards Lt f n ounet of its distress. 1 'He' Sdid that the future welfare of "Hie Empire'-depended upon tne success o. the Ottawa Conference. Recognition of the equality of status of the Dominions could not be better recognised than by holding. the conference in the .Dominion capital, and delegates should make every effort at Ottawa to hearten the world. In concerted measures, in which other, countries could co-operate, the Empire could give a lead in the right direction. If an upward movement of wholesale prices could be started, the benefit to producers would be fair greater than any measures more exclusively inspired. The outbreak ot trade restrictions threatened to strangle the world trade, but the Empire, internally, was relatively free of these causes of distress. Could she not give a lead which would 'restore confidence?-

The Prince wished tho representatives God speed and a full measure at success, 1 also a favourable response t<> the Government’s loan conversion' appeal which might prove the beginning of a return to better things.
