COMPETITION CONTINUED. f HOKITIKA LOSE TO MAWHERA
A sparkling, exciting match was seen at Greymouth yesterday when Mawhera defeated Hokitika by two " goals to one.
The opening play was fairly even, Mawhera being the first to attack, M... , Daly, the HoKitka custodian, making i.i. splendid save to M. Milligan relieved to 0. Ferguson, who carred it upfield and sent her forwards away. Amid great excitement J. Midfield pl&y followed with both sides hitting very hard. M. Little and .-N< McGrath sJione out in a forward rush but they were checked when on the point of scoring by J, Collett and L. Staines. Half time came with no score on either side. V
. The second half wrs a splendid .exhibition of the game, the pace being on from the commencement. Mawhera held the early advantage and from mid-field play O. Ferguson, N. McGrath and H. Currie took play to Hokitika’s zone for H. Currie to notch a beautiful goal.—Mawhera 1, Hokitika 0. Hokitika set up a determined attack and had Mawhera, on the defensive for some time. N. and M. Furness and C. ianner were playing well but the Hokitika forwards-did not allow chances -of breakaways and kept play well within their opponent’* territory, and after some brilliant play by the whole Hokitika team, J. Hall equalised the scores. Excitement was intense as the play became keener and each member of both teams was called upon to do her share, all; rising, tb the occasion splendidly. After many exciting forward movements, H. Currie notch a second goal.—Mawhera 2, Hokitika 1. The light was now hindering the play, but the game was still a very keen tussle, Hokitika trying hard to. equalise and Mawhera doing their utmost-.to keep them out. M. Milligan and C. ROYER A. V. ROVER. B. The match Between Rover A. and Rover B. yesterday resulted in a decided win for the A. team, by 11 goals to nil. The losers played well despite the significance of the scores, but tlie winning team with its combination and experience was too superior. Goals were scored by Mrs Butland (8), Mi ees Ridhmd (2), and D. Stopforth.
