CHRISTCHURCH, May 30,

The Christchurch City Council tonight passed without comment, the following resolution: “That this Council places on record .its appreciation of the action of’ all those, citizens who have assisted in protecting property and maintaining law and order.” At the last meeting of the Council, after a long discussion, a, motion, proposed by Or. Baker, that appreciation should be expressed of the work of spec-iijh constables, was referred to; the'/ Finance Committee, .which was instructed to wo:d it in such a way that it would be acceptable to the Council. The, Committee submitted the motion as above in lieu of Or, Bakers motion.
