RELIEF SCHEME
TO AID BUILDING
MANY INQUIRIES BEING MADE

AUCKLAND, May 30.
The new scheme by which the Unemployment Board will subsidise, the wage.-* of certain skilled unemployed men to enable their re-absorption in tim building industry is already' meeting utii a gratifying response, according to tlio .Minister of Employment, lit. lion. . j. G. Coates, who to-day passed through Auckland on bis return to Wellington.
-Mr Coates said that, although the scheme had only just been announced lie had received many inquiries from potential employers under the scheme. Mr Coates said he had received one offer ivolving £20,000 worth of labour.
He stated the actual amount of the wages received by the men engaged under the scheme would be a matter foir an arrangement btween the employer and men themselves. Judging by the number of .telegrams that - he had received offering employment under these terms, and asking for further particulars, the proposal wa» being keenly welcomed. It would be the means of providing a number of skilled men with something more satisfying than pick and shovel work, and with employment that would return them a better wage, He said that other schemes' of relief work throughout the country were proceeding very satisfactorily. Men themselves were responding, and the, public generally was very helpful. Mr Coates said the ten acre farm scheme was developing in an encouraging manner:
