Grey haired women who years ago, took part in tne tight- lor women's suttrage, stood with bowed beads m a corner of i\ estiiniister Abbey, wnile the champion o. the women s cause, Viscount Cecil of Chelwood, omened a memorial to their old Fader, Dame Millicent Garrett Eawc-ett. fc'J.e w.ns Known as the Mother ol' Women s Suffrage. .
The memorial, which lias been placed .11 the Chapel of the Holy Cross, near the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, takes the form of two p.aques and a billy carving of Dame Millicent’s head, and forms an addition to the memorial of her husband, Henry Fawcett, which was already in the Abbey. The simple wording of the memorial is as iollows:
Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett,
1547—1929.
A wise, constant,- and courageous Englishwoman. She won citizenship for women.
A brief service preceding tihe unveiling was conducted by the Deah, Dr. W. Foxley-jfrirfiS, Mrs Philippa Pawcett, only child of Dame Miiiiceh't, was among the distinguished people present.
