DISTURBANCES IN LIBERIA

RUGBY. May 25

Information has been received through the League of Nations, that military operations on the Em coast of Liberia, have resulted in the destruction of numerous villages, and the loss of more than 100 lives. Sir d. Simon, in the Commons, said the present situation was that some 1200 natives had been driven *y ■' of the Liberian Government from their ruined villages, into the bush, ill a manner which 'admitted of no excuse, and on grounds which, taken at the'r strongest, were wholly inadequate. The League Council had recently been considering remedial measures proposed hy the Liberia Committee. He would continue to do everything in his power to ensure that thes« meis;.,es were both speedy and effect ! ve.
