SHORTAGE OF FUNDS,

NEW YORK, May 26

Avery Brundidige, president of the Amateur Athletic Union, to-day notified twenty sport® committees of the American Olympic Committee, that this country’s team at the approaching games will' have to be cut down, because if lack of funds.

The action followed a meeting here of the Olympic France Committee, at which the treasurer reported that to date only 34,479 dollars hud been raised towards the committee goal of 350;000 dollars. “The entire sum raised,” Mr Brundidige said/“will be used solely to defray the expenses of team members to Lois Angeles. All Committee members and officials will he compelled -to pay their -o-wn way.” Sports governing bodies were notified of the impossibility of obtaining sufficent funds to’ ensure a full United Statesi participation in the games and were informed of the grave danger that the American Olympic Committee would be unable to finance all its teams.

It had been agreed at a previous meeting of the finance committee that in the event of funds falling short, the more important branches of sport would he given a preference, to the total exclusion if necessary, of others. Track a n d fields events were placed at the top of the list.
