GUILTY CF FELONY

NEW YORK. May 21

A message from Raleigh, North Carolina, states that John H. Haiwood, suspended Superior Court Judge, was sentenced to one year in prifibn after lie had pleaded guilty to mutilating State records in the case of his daughter, Lola Harwood, who was sentenced to serve two years upon a plea of guilty of embezzling State lands’. Judge Harwood, greying .slightly, sat calmly behind his attorneys. Immediately behind him were Miss Harwood and the jurist’s wife.

Miss Harwood, a former license cleric in the Department of Revenue, was indicted last Juno for the embezzlement of 4823 dollars (£965 at. par) in State- funds. Her father was indicted several weeks ago as an accessory after the fact for “manufacturing” evidence which the State- declared would prove his daughter innocent. Judge Harwood is the first Superior Court judge in No>-th Carolina to he indicted and sentenced on a felony request when the indictment was returned.
