ONE DAY STRIKE CONSIDERED. (By 1 elegraph —Per Press Association i WELLINGTON. May 4. It is understood that there was a meetting of delegates at the I rade Hall last Friday evening to consider the, recommendation of tile recent industrial conference, to declare a oneday strike, and that the- motion was referred back to the executive committees of each Union, to obtain the views of the individual unions, and to report back to a nieeting of delegates shortly. It was said that the general opinion is that ii: strike would not be declared.
FORTUNATE ESCAPE. WANGANUI, May 4. morning a slip occurred at Taylorville, completely burying a portion bf 'CJuttolli and Son’s bakery estaulishment.’- One oven was completely buried and the. other two were badly strained. The weight of the slip pushed tlie building in front of the .bakery (which was used as a shop and for residential purposes) completely offsj \ its. .- foundatio.iiS;ji;, The jCutfeili family were asleep at> Hie’ time,, him! ffiheylliad; difficulty in getting out as ithe windows and doors were jammed. Fbrtimately the slip did not occur later in the morning, wliein some bakehouse employees wouhl probably lmvo been buried alive.
