FESTIVAL OPENING THURSDAY. Oil Thursday night at the Princess :w Theatre, the Westland Competitions Society will open -its annual festival in Elocutionary, Musical and Dancing Competitions. The complete programme for each session of the festival is now on sale, and it wit', be seen there is a very complete entertainment of each and everjt, session. ■• The Competitions will open at .the Princess Theatre at 7.30 o clock on Thursday night, with :Iki Pn,sklent's address and introduction of the judges : M/s,A. -Strang of Timaru, dancing; Mr, Barton Ginger of Wellington, do- V cation ; and Mr F. A. Bulloch of ->/ s Christchurch, music. There arc 22 items for then opening -• night in which 37 performers will rp.-d/ pear. There will be a variety of sections presented, including, prepared speech ; piano solo, character cluo, soprano solo, recitations, violin solo, character sketch; -songs in character ; musical mond’.ogue, barefoot dance, recitation in character, piano duet, baritone solo, ballet in costume, unison song for boys, vocal duet, song for girls, and character duo and sketch. This generous variety will supply a very full programme of interest. The Competitions have again been well supported, and the performers . will include many outsiders. This will give added interest to the various competitions, and should draw ~a sustained attendance for the season. Tickets cohering all sessions are now on salo, with generous concessions tor fami.ies, {Early application for tickets is now necessary. Ooinpe-ti l ors and public alike should note that the festival will begin 1 at the Princess Theatre on Thursday night at 7.30 o’clock.
