WAR MEMORIAL

HANDED OVER AT WELLINGTON. 'By Teleyruph —Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 17. This afternoon the Wellington .Citizens’ Wap- Memorial was lormallv handed to the City at a dedication ceremony attended, in nerlcct weather, by a large gathering. The parade included a detachment of the New Zealand Naval Division, Royal naval volunteer reserves-, territorials, college cadets and returned soldiers. The Gover-nor-General and Lady Bledisloe were present, and the dedication was performed by the Bishop of W ellington, Bishop Sprott. Among the speakers wore the Prime Minister, Mr Forbes, and Mr Coates, who proposed that, in accordance with the practice in London at the Cenotaph, citizens should display homage h.v haring their heads as they passed the memorial. The suggestion was supported by Colonel H. E. Averv, President of the R.S.A. and other speakers.
