GOLF
HOKITIKA CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of tlie Hokitika Golf Club was held in the County Council Chambers at 8 o’clock on Tuesday night. The President (Air J. C. Alacfarlane) presided over a large attendance.
Chairman’s Report. I have the honour to report on the operations of your Glut) for thej past year as follows: The previous procedure of presenting the prizes at tho annual meeting was passed over in favour of presenting the various trophies on closing day. This proved very satisfactory, and last closing day, being a fine day, it was quite a fitting closure to the season’s
play. Air J. A. Chesney regained the title of Club champion and Aliss J. Houston put up a creditable performance by winning the Ladies’ Championship. Seddon Challenge Cup.—The annual matches for this Cup were played last year under ideal weather conditions. Greymouth A visited the Mahinapua Links, and after quite a good competition were again successful in holding tho Clip. The I), teams journeyed to O Kioto hut this your, found Greymouth too strong for them. West Coast Championship.—Held at Greymouth. A number of local players attended the meeting, and although none were .successful, they had a very enjoyable three days of golf. This year the meeting will be held at Westport. Alenibcrship and Finance.—The membership and financial position of the Club still proves very satisfactory. However, although we have a creditable financial surplus, the prospects for tho. forthcoming year do net look ns bright as those of last year, and the Club would he well advised to curtail expenses as much as possible. The Club is indebted to Dr. Teichelmnnn, who lias reduced the interest payable on the mortgage to him. Professional Coach.—Air J. Ross, or Hanmer, visited the Club during the. season with satisfactory results.
The outgoing committee recommends that the 1932 season be opened with a mixed foursome handicap, played on Saturday next, the 9th of April.
The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. Resignations of four members were received.
Twelve new members were elected. It was decided to suspend for the ensuing year all match and locker fees This would be tantamount to a reduction of ! the subscriptions' payable "by-o/- in the case of men and 2/6 in the case iof ladies. The election of officers resulted as follows: Captain.—Mr J. C. Macfarlane (reelected). Secretary—Mr W. E. Brown. Treasurer—Mr J. A. Chesney (reelected). Hon. Auditor—Mr H. F. Cooke (reelected). Committee—Mesdames T.angford and Doreen ; Messrs W. Wilson. H. Steel T. Cagney, H. F. Cooke, S. Darby. The opening; day was fixed for Saturday the 9th April with a mixed foursome. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the County Council for the use of the Chambers, and to the Chairman.
LADIES’ MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Hokitika Ladies’ Golf Club was held in the County Chambers on Tuesday, “>Ui April, at 7 p.m. Present: Mrs Wilson (in the ehair), Mesdames Mae farlane. Winchester, Cooke, Cagney, Irwin, Cox, B. Wilson, Guthrey, Tomlinson, Boss. K. Park, G. Perry. Garnet Perry, Murdoch, Langford. Misses Lewis, King. Potts, Wilson and Cooke. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and the annual report and balance sheet received nad adopted on the motion ol Mrs Wilson, seconded by Mrs Murdoch.
Annual Report. Youi* Committee begs to submit the following report for the 1931 season. Tile year was an entirely successful one, the links being in excellent order and all I lie usual competitions being played. The balance sheet shows a credit of L‘(> odd which is satisfactory in view of the extra expenditure for a Championship Cup. We congratulate .Miss Jean Houston on winning the Championship. As regards trophies, the usual procedure was altered this year and prizes were presented on closing day at the Club House instead of at tile annual meeting as formerly.
Many players reduced their handicaps nml our L.G.U. membership is now 33. Nine junior players have (nullified during the season, this is the biggest membership of L.G.U. players the Chili has had.
In conclusion the thanks of the Club are due to the ladies for providing i.-;i in' Seturdavs and assisting with
the oiitorb'inniont of visitors during inter Club mulches-; to the Press tor I heir court >s.v in publishing details of matches, ;.n,| (o the County Council for I lie use of their Chambers for our meet ings.
It was decided that M ,-s W ilson s competition he carried on through the winter, commencing Ist May and concluding on .‘list October, fresh nominations to be received and handicaps
remaining the same throughout tho competition. It was recommended to the incoming committee that the new season’s score cards he printed a smaller size than has been the custom. After an animated discussion, the meeting decided that the provision <•( lea on Saturdays by the ladies remain the same. Election of Officers. The election of officers then took place, Miss Lewis proposed Mrs Langford as captain, seconded by Miss Wilson and carried. Miss Lewis proposed Mrs Dore on as secretary, seconded by Miss King and carried. Miss King was proposed as Senior Handicap Manager by Mrs Macfarlane, and seconded by Mrs Langford.—Carried. Miss' Potts was elected Junior Handicap Manager, promised bv Mrs Garnet Perry and seconded hv Mrs Tnvin. Miss King moved a lieartv vote of thanks to the retiring Captain, Mrs Wilson, seconded by Miss Potts and carried with acclamation. Miss Potts then proposed a. vote of thanks to the outgoing committee, this was seconded by Mrs Winchester and carried, Tho meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to tile chair.
