BRUTAL ASSAULT
ROBBERY OF £53,
ATTACK BY TWO MEN,

PALMERSTON N., April 1. Charles Williams, a resident of Palmerston North, was the victim of a brutal assault and robbery yesterday evening. The sum of £53 sterling was taken. The victim’s statement is that he was summoned by telephone from the Cosmopolitan Club by a man • who asked Williams to meet him outside the Club. When Williams went out he was met by a stranger who said lie had a companion round the comer, who desired to see Williams. Unsuspectingly the latter went round and engaged both in conversation, when suddenly the statement adds, both attacked and overpowered Williams and relieved him of the amount stated, which included a fifty pound note, and made off.
Tli-e victim is bruised and has a cut on the head. The police are investigating the case.
