EFFECT ON AMERICAN APPLES

The “Daily Telegraph” says importations of American apples have ■decreased remarkably since the imposition of 1-3 of ten per emit. duty. Importations for the week ended 27th. February were 166,000 owls; sth. March 105,000 civts; 12th. March 47,000 civts; 19th. March 52,000 cuts; 26th. March 33,000 civts. Though there were sixteen milion bushels in cold storage of United Stales on Ist. March which is half a million bushels above 1931, there has been a big increase in importations of South. Africans jrt March, in. addition to the opening of the Australian and Neiv Zealand season.
