ABNORMAL TIDES
ON TARANAKI COAST.
FISHERMEN'S ROUGH TIME,

NEW PLYMOUTH, March 23
There were exceptionally high tides along the North Taranaki coast last night. At AVaitara a. fishing launch wa« unable to return over the river bar, and spent a rough night at sea, sailing to New Plymouth this morning.
Another launch returned to Wai-ta-ra this morning heeled over on a heavy sea and threw a fisherman, Fitzpatrick, overboard. Her ballast righted the vessel. Fitzpatrick swam to a floating barrel and he clung to it until lie was rescued. A small launch in New Plymouth harbour broke its moorings and drifted on to the rocks, and was smashed. Some damage r W£W-.<fen e ,! ~a sewer outfall in course of construction. A quantity of timber and other material was washed away. In attempting to rescue one piece of timber a workman had his ankle bone broken.
