NORWEGIAN VESSEL’S FATE. STRIKES ROCKS NEAR AUCKLAND. V (By Telegraph —ter Brets Association) '\. AUCKLAND, March 9. Disaster befell the Norwegian jatilt “Teddy'’.! this afternoon, toe vessel being wracked on Challenger or Little . 'Kuwait island.' ..ah . " V The owner and the..skipper, Erling. Tamils, with his wife and tivo child- . ron were saved, after a harrowing ordeal. • ~(- ••• iiu Mrs Tambs who was rescued while 1 clinging to some wreckage,', .received ti severe cut on tile head, and Tambs was cut deeply on the leg by the rocks. The children escaped'injury. All are staving at the Mansion House, Hawaii Island. The accident happened-about 1.30 p.m. the Teddy being caught on a heavy swell, and dashed on to the rocks. The vessel left Auckland last Saturday, for Brisbane, and having called at Kawau Island, she left there at 10 a.m. to-day in continuation of her voyage. She was sighted shortly before 1.30 p.m. by the steamer. Duchess, and was then sailing close to tho easterly point of Challenger Island, Appar* ently all was well. A small fishing launch “Ola,” owned by Albert Entege, of Kawau Island, who was on board with a companion cruised into the vicinity cf the Teddy, 'and it was seen that the vessel was pounding on the rocks at tlie south east side of Challenger Island. The Ola immediate’y rushed to the stricken craft. Airs Tambs was discovered clinging to a plank on the seaward side of the Teddy, which had its stem hard and fast in a deft in the rocks. The boom was broken off, and the seas were washing across the vessel. Mrs Tambs was taken from the water bruised and exhausted. As the Olu approached, Taints was scrambling on to the rocks, with their three-year-old son, and baby, and, by the time lie had placed them in safety, Mrs Tambs had been picked up. Tambs and the children, who were accompanied by the dog mascot, were, then taken on hoard the Ola. The wreckage from the Yacht was floating in all directions. By this time the craft was full of water, and listing to seaword on her beam ends. While rescue'was in progress the coastal motor vessel, Coronation, came in sight, bound f’.om Whangarei ' "j Heads to Aucklan... At 12.15 p.m. when the Ofa was preparing to leave for Kawau Lland, with the survivors on hoard the Coronation came alongside and offered to help. The survivors were sittirg in tVi§ cockpit of the Ola, and appeared to . * bo quite cheerful. They elected to return to Kawau. The skipper of the launch told Captain Robertson of the Coronation, that the Teddy was proceeding out of-the south passage in a light southerly bre.'f're. and a heavy swell, when she missed her stays and'was swept shore. Further assistance not being needed, the Coronation came cn to Auckland, and the TTfa proceeded to Kawau • where Airs Tambs and the chddren were cared for by the ladies at tho Mansion House. To-night they were progressing favourably. At 4 n.m. Contain Tambs set out from Kawr.it Island again in the T.auneh Ola to inspect the wreck. When be returned to Kawau he stated that it was impossible to save anything.
