STILL WAITING. ( By Telegraph — L'er Brest A ssociation) AUCKLAND, January 11. The week end at Ninety Mile Beach wa* a time of false alarms. On .Saturday (Smith announced he would probably make a run, but after starting the engine in the garage he would not take the ear out considering the beach -still unfit.

On Sunday again the whole party were busy getting rthe car ready to take the track, but although the engine was started thrice, Smith did not make a run.

Smith thinks early "on Wednesday morning (the conditions will be perfect for attempting the record, probably the ten mile, as he wants to get a thorough feel ol foe car before he attempts to assault the flying mile. To-day if the beach is suitable, Smith will have a trial run about G o’clock.

On Saturday a number of local residents were disappointed and rather incensed by official action in posting police at the approaches to the beach ami only official cars were allowed through and others were forced to stop four mill's from Ihe garage. lvven after il was an non need that n<> trial would take place they wen 1 not allowed through and could not see the
